Daniel Carpenter, born 8 October 1669 in Rehoboth, MA., was the son of William and Miriam Searles-Carpenter. He became Deacon of the Church in 1668. Daniel had eight siblings: Josiah, Nathaniel, Noah, Miriam, Obadiah, Ephraim, Hannah andAbigail. He had four half-siblings: John, William, Priscilla and Benjamin.
MILITARY: Daniel was in the doleful Expedition of Phillips against Quebec in 1690.
HISTORY: Daniel was a farmer and Town Clerk of Rehoboth, Mass., for 25 years.
Daniel married five times. His first wife was Bethiah Bliss, who he married 15 April 1695, to whom Jabez was born in 1700. Bethiah died 27 February 1702. His second wife was Elizabeth Butterworth who was born 15 January 1682, married 30March 1704 in Rehoboth, and who died 19 March 1717. Third marriage 12 December 1710 was to Margaret Thurston who died 19 March 1717. Fourth wife was Mary Hunt on 15 October 1718--Mary Hunt died 19 March 1719. Fifth and last wife of Daniel wasMary Hyde (widow), for whom no birth, death or marriage dates have been found.
Daniel had a total of five children with five wives. With the exception of Jabez, it is not known which children were born to which wives.
Daniel died in 1763 in Rehoboth, Massachusetts* It is said that the Carpenter Greyhound Coat of Arms is carved onto his gravestone.
*per Savage: Daniel died 14 September 1721 (shortly after he married his last wife, Mary HYDE).
Also from Savage: "Whether hehad issue by any of these wives is unknown. An agreeable letter from him to his father written at Weymouth, probably 27 July 1690, gives account of his then engagementin the doleful expedition of Philips againstQuebec in Gallop's company of which a list is annexed included a few Ind (individuals?) asmay be read in Genealogical Register IX.354. Valuable as is that role, a better one is furnished in Genealogical Register XIII.133, by a writer who couldnot have the letter of Carpenter, or he would have avoided the errors(?) supposedly that the force was designated for Albany."
