1654---Removed from Springfield to Northampton

1656 and ensuing years, His wife was charged and tried in court twice for being a Witch.

Joseph brought action against the neighbor Goodwife Bridgman to protect the reputation of his wife, Mary, even though she had such a strong personality, proud, nervous, haughty, who considered herself a wealthy dame of considerable importance, which followed her from Springfield to Northampton. So neighborhood gossip accused her of being a witch.

The court favored Mary Bliss Parsons and James Bridgman had to pay a fine to Joseph Parsons.

Eighteen years later the charge of witchcraft was renewed, but this time in Boston. She argued her own case. The jury gave her full acquittal.

Later his son, John, also, was charged with witchcraft. The court paid it little attention.Joseph, disgusted with all this action, that in 1679, he returned to Springfield.
