Family tradition (throughout many branches) has it that Mary Carlile was Native American, and of the Lenni Lenape tribe. The common story is that she was related to Pocahontas. Though there is no proof of her connection to Pocahontas, thereexists much good evidence to support the idea that she was Native American.
