Thomas Chaffee came to New England at an unknown date. But it is recorded of him, that he owned land which had been granted to him in Hingham, Mass. in 1635. The place and date of his birth and the maiden name of his wife are unknown. Also thename of the ship which brought him is unknown. Hingham was one of the oldest towns in Mass. and there were settlers there in 1633 when it was called Bare Cove, so Thomas could have been and probably was, there from the beginning. In 1637 hewas granted another parcel of land in Hingham. At this time he was not married. We know that his wife's name was Dorothy and both of his sons had daughters named Dorothy.
