James Barkelow (1753-1838) is part of the third generation of descendants of Willem and Harman Jans van Barkelo, two Dutch brothers who emigrated from Borculo, Holland in 1657.

It is not known whether James Barkelow is a descendant of the William Barkalow who purchased land in Hunterdon County on Nov 29,1717, or one of the descendants of Reiner Herman van Burkelow's sons who emigrated up to the Delaware to thPhiladelphia area and beyond in the early 1700's.
