The name of Mary's father is not known, but she is strongly presumed to have been a granddaughter of Sir Thomas Fienes, whose ancestry is nicely traced through the Fienes (Fiennes, Fenys), Say (Saye, Sele) and Dacre families.

Sir Thomas Fienes, Lord Dacre (1516-1541) was a juror at the trial of Anne Boleyn (a distant cousin), an attendant at the funeral of Jane Seymour, and an escort of Anne of Cleves. He was hanged in 1541.

His ancestors include many signers of the Magna Carta, including King John, and many European kings, among whom is counted Charlemagne.

Mary Fienes was born about 1582. She was the grand-daughter of Lord Dacre, who was executed in 1541. Mary married Frank Wheatleigh and they lived at Maiden Newton, Dorset, England.
