A funeral service for Samuel Christian Snell, 87, of Route 2, Afton, will be held at 2: p.m. Wednesday in the Hebron Baptish Church, conducted by the Rev. John Chaffee, assisted by the Rev. Sam Rideout. Burial will be in the church cemetery.

The body will remain at the Etter Funeral Home until 12 noon Wednesday when it will be placed in the church.

He died at 11:50 a.m. Sunday in Waynesboro Community Hospital.

Mr. Snell had been a foreman at Crompton=Shenandoah Co. Inc. where he was employed for 13 years before his retirement in 1956.

He was a member and deacon of Hebron Baptist Church and he was the last member of his immediate family.

Born July 7, 1884, he was a son of the late Christian and Sarah Hite Snell.

Survivors include his wife, Mrs. Mamie Baber Snell; four daughters by a former marriage, Mrs. W. P. (Marie) Wine of Route 1, Mrs. George (Catherine) Balsley of Waynesboro, Mrs. Richard (Helen Glass of Afton, and Mrs. William (Frances) Albrightof Greensboro, N.C.; one son Carroll Austin Snell of Hudson, Fla; also 16 grandchildren and 19 great-grandchildren.
