Ernest C. Snell, 51, of Route 2, Afton, Va., was dead on arrival at Waynesboro community Hospital Sunday afternoon.

Mr. Snell was a member of Hebron Baptist Church and had been employed for the past 15 years by the Virginia Department of Highways. He was with the Highway Research Council at the time of his death.

He was a member of the Rockfish Valley Ruritan Club, a leader in the Rockfish Valley Community 4-H Club, and a veteran of World War II. (He was in the Seabees in the Pacific)

He was born on June 5, 1916 at Afton, Va., a son of the late Samuel C. and Ruth Cook Snell.

Mr. Snell is survived by his wife, Mrs. Bluma Quick Snell; one daughter, Miss Sandra Elaine Snell, at home; one brother, Carroll A. Snell o Galesville, Conn.; four sisters, Mrs. W. P. Wine, Mrs. George Balsley, and Mrs. Richard Glass, all ofWaynsboro, and Mrs. William Albright of Greensboro, N.C.; a step-mother, Mrs. Mamie C. Snell of Afton; also a number of nieces and nephews.

A funeral service will be held at 4:30 p.m. Tuesday at the Hebron Baptist Church conducted by the Rev. John Chafee. Burial will be in the church cemetery.

Active pallbearers will be William S. Miller, Harry Floyd, Guy Brooks, John R. Mitchell, James Sheffield, and Richard Roberts.
