It seems probable that Capt. Joseph Kline lived in Harrisonburg (Wayland's History of Rockingham County, page 188) and that the company was made up largely of the German farmers and tradesmen about, many of whom evidently had scruples againstmilitary service. The nine children of Daniel Wine and Elizabeth Kagey were only a small part of the fourth generation of the George and Margaret Wine family. These nine children had at least seventy-two first cousins who were the sons and daughters of thebrothers and sisters of Daniel Wine. Most of these cousins were surnamed Wine, and the remainder bore the family name of Bowman, Myers, Wampler or Arnold.

The five sons were successful farmers, and some of them acquired large land holdings. The four daughters each married a farmer. Thus, the family's rural heritage was preserved in this generation.

All nine of the children were married in Rockingham County, Virginia, and their marriage bonds are preserved in the court house in Harrisonburg.
