The second and last stage of the voyage from the English port to Philadelphia took anywhere from two to three months. The weather was the determining factor. Even with the very best weather and the most favorable winds, the trip could not bemade in less than seven weeks. The most common problems of the passengers were cramped quarters, seasickness, poor food, rough seas, lice and fleas, scarcity of drinking water, disease and death. Burial at sea was a common occurrence on nearlyevery voyage. It is not know how many emigrants leaving Rotterdam succumbed to the perils of the Atlantic crossing, but over the years many died at sea.
