Built in 1726, burned March 24, 1916. Built by Mann Page I (1691-1730) on land that his father Matthew Page (1639-1703), the son of immigrant John, inherited from his Mother Many Mann of Timberneck Hall, Gloucester County. It was left, incomplete, to Mann Page II (grandson of Robert Carter of Corotoman) and descended to John Page, churchman, Burgess, Councillor, Revolutionist, member of Congress, and Governor of Virginia. Rosewell remained in the page until the death ofGovernor Page's widow in 1838, when it was sold. It was the largest and finest of American houses of the Colonial period. At the site the ruined walls remain, and nearby is a superb group of page tombs.
